Multi-lingual, multi-discipline

Immigration law covers all aspects of wanting to enter the UK – whether it’s to study, to start a business or to live. Coming to the UK can be as straightforward as obtaining the right visa but if there’s a problem, Scott-Moncrieff’s immigration team has the specialist expertise to step in and secure a speedy resolution. We can also help if you want to bring a partner or member of your family into the country.

This area of the legal system is increasingly complex. To bring a successful immigration case now demands knowledge of a whole range of other specialisms such as human rightsfamily and housing law. The good news is that Scott-Moncrieff’s multi-lingual immigration team applies this inter-disciplinary approach, harnessing each lawyer’s know-how in such areas, as well as the wider expertise of other departments within the firm.

Our lawyers understand the distress that can be caused by an immigration problem. We work with energy and sympathy to resolve situations and reunite families and to secure the release of immigrants who have been unlawfully detained.

Our specialist team of immigration solicitors can provide advice and guidance across a whole range of areas. We regularly help our clients with:

  • applying to the UK Border Agency
  • applying for British Citizenship
  • applying for Dual Citizenship
  • applying for leave-to-remain
  • advice about EU migration
  • advice about how the points system works if you want to work/study in the UK
  • appeals to Immigration Tribunals
  • advocacy at First Tier Tribunals
  • children’s immigration
  • Home Office applications
  • Judicial Review applications
  • unlawful detention when trying to enter the UK
  • asylum applications

Seeking asylum means you are applying to stay in the UK as a refugee. To be eligible you have to have left your own country and be unable to return. It’s vital that you seek advice quickly, as there are very short deadlines for providing the necessary evidence.

To be granted asylum you’ll have to prove that you have a ‘well-founded fear of persecution’ due to your race, religion, nationality, political opinion or to membership of a particular social group.

You’ll also have to show that you can’t rely on your country’s government to protect you from persecution.

Our immigration solicitors work for a speedy resolution of asylum seeker applications so that the uncertainty and anxiety of waiting for a decision last no longer than necessary.

Our multi-lingual immigration team has worked on complex detention and removal cases, some of which have led to Judicial Review applications and petitions to the European Court of Human Rights. We pride ourselves on our work ethic and on our commitment to going the extra mile for our clients, so we get the best possible result every time.

If you have little or no money, you may be entitled to Legal Aid (free legal advice). If this isn’t possible we’ll explain exactly how much we’ll charge and keep you up-to-date with costs as your case progresses.

Legal Aid is available for various types of immigration cases, including people who are in detention, people who have been trafficked and people who are applying to stay in the UK because of domestic violence.

If Legal Aid isn’t available for your case, we’ll advise on the most affordable route. We’ll keep an eye on the budget and make sure you’re always 100% up-to-date with costs so there are no nasty surprises at the end.
