A native New Yorker, Sam has a varied background in practice underpinned by his knowledge of litigation in equality and discrimination law. He honed his skills in America working on death penalty cases and personal injury litigation.

In his varied and diverse career, Sam has developed expertise in complex civil litigation, public law, international litigation and inquest law. Sam has become known for consistently bringing difficult cases to trial. He is known for his creativity, determination and guile in litigation and has been described as “able to see points other lawyers don’t.” He largely acts for women and children and is known for excellent client care.

Recent Cases Include:

Woolcock v SSCLG & Ors concerning system of council tax imprisonment. Sam through his dogged pursuit of disclosure found mass unlawful imprisonment of poor people.

Coll v SSJ the systemic discrimination challenge concerning the lack of approved premises. 2017] UKSC 40

Lw and Ors v Sodexo and SSJ The judgment makes clear that the State cannot outsource its human rights obligations. It will have significant implications for private government contracts in all fields.
