If you’re a new business a share scheme can be an ideal way of supplementing initial salaries. And if you’re thinking of a management or employee buy-out a share scheme can be a great way of raising equity.
There are all sorts of corporate, tax and employment implications of setting up a share scheme – but you can leave all that to our experts. We’ll look after the whole process:
- designing a scheme that fits your commercial priorities
- assisting in implementing the scheme and communicating with employees
- dealing with any implications arising from sales, acquisitions or listing.
What are the types of employee share schemes?
There are four main forms of share scheme:
- approved share option scheme (CSOP)
- unapproved share option scheme
- enterprise management incentives (EMI)
- share incentive plans (SIPs)
The first three involve the use of share options, which means people have a right to buy a set number of shares at a fixed price and within a specific time-frame. The fourth involves the employer giving a fixed number of shares free of tax and National Insurance contributions.
