Services

Our areas of work are Mental Health Law, Family Law, Public Law, CCRC applications and Personal Injury.

Is this you? Is this the person you hope we can help?

Our core clients are those who are locked up, in prison or psychiatric hospital, looked-after children and detained children, asylum seekers with mental health problems and other vulnerable people.

Mental Health

We have over 20 caseworkers who specialise in representing clients at Mental Health Review Tribunals, and associated work. The caseworkers are based nationally and will travel up to 2 hours to visit clients detained in hospital. Sarah Johnston and Corinne Singer are the supervisors of the Mental Health Unit.

Most of the caseworkers are based in and around London, but we also have case workers in Bristol, Surrey, Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Devon and Liverpool. We have great expertise in representing mentally disordered offenders and patients detained in special hospitals and medium secure units.

According to independent interviews by Chambers & Partners UK, Scott-Moncrieff, Harbour & Sinclair is "without rival in the mental health field," working on behalf of detained patients and individuals with mental health issues.

This legislation came fully into force on 1st October 2007. We offer advice and assistance in drawing up, executing and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney, in respect of property and affairs as well as personal welfare. We can also advise on and draft advance decisions to refuse medical treatment (living wills).

Team members: Sarah Johnston and Robert Robinson.

Family Law

The Family Law unit specialises in Public Law Children Act cases. Anthony Harbour, Nancy Biggs and Beth Prince are joint supervisors of the Family Law Unit. Caseworkers are all based in London.

Public Law

The Public Law Unit focuses on children's rights, particularly those of locked-up, looked-after or unaccompanied refugee children. We are also able to take on a range of other work under our Public Law contract, such as Human Rights, Community Care and Discrimination work, but we only take on such cases for our core client group - mental health service users, people with disabilities and other vulnerable individuals. Mitchell Woolf is the supervisor of the Public Law Unit.

Caseworkers are based in London and Herefordshire.

Team members: Mitchell Woolf, Robert Robinson, Helen Jones.

Prison Law

We have caseworkers in London, Nottinghamshire and Cheshire undertaking Prison Law work. Most of the work involves representing life sentence prisoners at Parole Board hearings and making category representations. However we will also consider taking on other cases if the client falls within our core client groups - people with mental health problems, people with disabilities, vulnerable people or if the case raises human rights or discrimination issues. Jane Page and Rikki Garg are the supervisors of the Prison Law unit.

Team members: Jane Page, Rikki Garg, Amanda Page, Chris Mould, Kristen Bender, Rachel Mould, Samantha Booth, Tracy Greaves

Criminal Cases Review Commission

We prepare cases for submission to the CCRC where the applicant is a prisoner who has been transferred under the Mental Health Act to a psychiatric hospital, and where the applicant is attempting to show that he should have been given a hospital order rather than a prison sentence.
If a client in these circumstances is still able to make a direct appeal to the Court of Appeal, we will prepare such a case.

We will take on cases for clients anywhere in the country.

Team members: Glyn Maddocks

Personal Injury

The Personal Injury Unit acts for individuals, including children, and patients with mental health problems, who have been injured in various ways including accidents at work or on the road, accidents abroad, occupier liability claims, slipping and tripping accidents, criminal assaults and disease claims. We pride ourselves on providing a speedy, straight forward and compassionate service. We act for most of our clients under "No Win, No Fee" and never take any fees from clients' compensation.

The unit is based in London, but we will take on cases for clients in our core client groups anywhere in the country. Anthony Cole is the supervisor of the Personal Injury Unit.
