Laura Janes is a consultant solicitor who has six years’ experience of representing children and young people in detention. Before joining SCOMO, she was an employed solicitor at the Howard League for Penal Reform. Her practice covers prison law, criminal appeals and public law. In particular, Laura specialises in representing children serving life sentences before the Parole Board.
She is the founder of the Young Legal Aid Lawyers, a Director of the Legal Action Group and a member of the Law Society’s Access to Justice Committee. She has a Masters in Research in Law and Human Rights and is currently in the process of completing a Professional Doctorate in Youth Justice at the University of Bedfordshire. She is a guest lecturer in the Law Department at South Bank University.
