We try to accommodate all requests for work experience, but our ability to do so is governed by the willingness of fee earners in the firm to offer work experience.
As a rule, long-term full-time work experience is only offered to those who have passed the solicitors' qualifying exams and are looking for a training contract. Any such requests for work experience will be circulated to the fee-earners in the firm, and the offer of work experience will be dependent on a fee-earner accepting responsibility for supervising the applicant.
Shorter periods of work experience, up to a week, will be offered to anyone who applies, so long as we have the resources to offer a useful and interesting experience at the relevant time. This decision is made by our Practice Manager, Rosemarrie Howe.
Young people under 18 are not allowed to go on hospital or prison visits, so their work experience may be entirely office based, although we do try and fit in a trip to court or to a barristers chambers, if possible.
All applications for work experience should be sent by email to rhowe@scomo.com
